There is not a greater example of a mostly red state being turned blue by one big city. I would think that the rest of the state would not want to be governed by a city that is completely different from the rest of the population, and want to join with other states instead, or make their own Greater Illinois, or whatever. It's worse than Oregon and Washington, and those places have efforts to join with another state, so why not Illinois? I did read they are having a population decline, which is probably mostly people from rural towns moving out of state to be where the laws are actually favorable to farming.

Wisconsin and Illinois should separate from Milwaukee and Chicago and let them be a sovereign black state
No. Chicago/Milwaukee would have the rights to the water from Lake Michigan. They would do something terrible with that sort of power
I grew up in IL. You can’t outvote cook county. The way the state elections are set up, if cook county votes one way on an issue the whole state can vote opposite and still lose. Dems love this, and obviously they cheat massively to make sure they never lose.
They are experiencing huge population decline. It is all the rural towns. People like me leave and dont come back. I moved to MO, best decision I have ever made.
There have been numerous state secession movements in IL over the years. One big problem: it would take ratification...and who controls the state gov. there?
Michigan has long been controlled electorally by Detroit.
I think laying siege to the big cities is a better idea. No food, no water, no power--and a big line of bitter clingers ready to hold people in.
