And maybe stop using the Irish Tricolour flag to announce your Irish ethnicity, as it has fuck all to do with St. Patrick ?

The flag symbolizes unity between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland so it is relevant to the holiday of Saint Patrick who brought the Christian religion to Ireland.

Did you know that the St Patrick’s flag dates all the way back to 1782 when Britain acknowledged the exclusive right of the Irish parliament to legislate for Ireland. A year later the Order of St Patrick was established to reflect the country’s enhanced constitutional status and the regalia worn by the knights of this order was a red saltire (a diagonal cross) on a white background.

After its adoption by the order of St Patrick the flag began to be used by other institutions. In 1800 the act of Union came into play which joined the Kingdom of Ireland with the Kingdom of Great Britain and the saltire was then added to the British flag to form the Union Flag. The Union flag is still used in Great Britain today and is one of the most recognised flags across the world.

But not relevant to Protestants living in Northern Ireland today , who also celebrate this religious festival. The official colour for St Patrick is blue - the Tricolour is the national flag of the Republic of Ireland. They are not interchangeable.

Nobody said the two flags were interchangeable; the point is that the Republic of Ireland flag is very relevant to the holiday of Saint Patrick.

It’s even relevant to the “Northern Irish” who geographically are farther south compared to some people in the Republic of Ireland. They might not want unity with their Catholic neighbors but they should consider the fact that Saint Patrick himself was a Catholic.

Religion has nothing to do with it - the majority of people in Northern Ireland prefer to remain as part of the United Kingdom. And I still fail to see how the flag that was frequently draped over the coffins of dead, murderous, terrorist scum has any connection to a Christian Saint.
