It’s very simple. They view Muslims as minorities / a group oppressed by the west, and generally speaking the political right in America doesn’t like radical Islam (which is basically just Islam).
Thus the political left must choose the side opposite of the political right.
Consequently, no matter how egregious Islam is, the left will ignore it as long as they can use “Muslims” to bash the right.
But they are too myopic to understand they are doing this at their own peril.
