Lots of speculation from others here but it boils down to skin color. They were the racists of yesterday and they judged people negatively based on the color of their skin. They feel guilty so these days they judge people positively based on the color of their skin.

Never once stopping to think that you are a racist still if you are judging people by their melanin content.
