McConnell is now talking tough and threatening a Senate shutdown if the Dems try to eliminate the filibuster. I greatly question if he would actually do so at all. I would be even more surprised if he didn't fold a short time later if he went through with it.

Would be nice for him to actually do something useful.

If he doesn't, say hello to HR1 and possibly things like HR127.

what's he going to do? Tell all the republican senators not to show up?

Can't they use the filibusters to prevent the removal of the filibuster?

The filibuster is automatic. It's always in effect unless it's a budget vote.

McConnell wants to ENSURE that no Republican is there and can be swayed to remove the filibuster.

And yes, you need 60 votes to remove the filibuster. With a walk out/shut down, he's making sure by peer pressure that no Republican can be swayed or bullied into voting with Democrats.
