I would think setting a person on fire would be first degree, rather than second degree, murder.

It depends on if the murder was premeditated. Did the actor plan to set this person on fire. Also can it be proved. Did he ready the tools a head of time did he lure his victim. Was there a plan to get away There's a lot that comes with first degree murder. It's a lot easier to convince a jury that he did it intentionally rather than he planned it.
