Ugh, for the last fucking time: there is a big difference between stating that we, as a society, are encouraging/normalizing certain behaviors (which we are) that in some people can become compulsions/addictions (and then not even recognizing society's hand in this) and playing the victim Olympics. We allow things to be pushed at people, and then wonder why some wind up with problems.
Funny you should bring up depression -- we have that starting to become a compulsion in our society as well. Why? Because we're normalizing and even glamorizing it...."let's talk about your feelings" (all the time, but with no advice given on how to cope with said feelings); "here, take a pill"...
