The city knew exactly what they were doing by settling before his trial. Normally wrongful death lawsuits are held pending the outcome of the criminal trial, because evidence can be used from the trial (like a “not guilty” finding) to influence how much is paid, if anything.

The whole intent was to taint the jury pool by “admitting guilt” before Chauvin goes on trial. They’ll never get a fair trial anywhere now, unless the jury has been living under a rock, and I wouldn’t want those kind of people deciding my fate either.

The charges should be dropped. The city fucked everything up, and now there’s zero chance of justice happening here.
