The real mission is not necessarily to protect against this version of COVID-19 as much has stopping its propagation. The propagation then allows mutation. The mutation potential is unknown. Could be much worse. Hence the push for a vaccinated population. Most of us need to get it to fight the mutation. I think that is the reason behind the push.

The vaccine doesn’t even pretend to stop propagation. It’s what’s known as a “leaky vaccine” — it reduces/eliminates symptoms.
