That's exactly what you're doing when you call a woman by a name she's chosen to make a statement with. When your buddy goes by a nickname, he's probably not trying to make some kind of socio-political statement with it. Ellen Page is using "Elliot" to affirm her "masculinity", and you calling her that plays along with that delusion. It's not "just" a name.

I disagree, but you can do as you like, fren. I don't run into many trannies anyway so it's not something that I'm going to lose any sleep over in any case.

I think refusing to use the opposite pronoun is plenty of pressure. If a dude wants to call himself Princess Sparkle, he's known as "that dude Princess Sparkle".
