Why is his perspective any more valid than the others though? How can he claim that he can truly see?
The whole point of the cartoon is that the truth is determined relative to your perspective. Why should I believe what the author is saying from his own biased perspective?
The truth: the symbol was written by someone so you can ask that person what it is.

Someone DID paint a 6 or a 9, but without the little bar to tell you the bottom side there is no point of reference and therefore no necessary context, making both viewpoints correct until some context is provided proving one correct. IN THIS CASE ONLY.
