Not a 10 year old. But I bet a 12 year old could follow the story, though they won't really get the metaphors. They won't understand what is actually being said by way of the story. They'd need to see how the protagonist's job translates to what we see today with historical revisionism, cancel culture, and the tech oligarchs ability to "unperson" someone.
A 16 year old could "get it", but it would take some discussion with someone who already can explain the ideas.
It's a dark story, but it is so very much the reality we now see!
I haven't read it, but it sounds like you have.
Can you answer this, what is the youngest average age a child could read this book and comprehend it? Just an estimate. 10, 12, 16???
Thanks
It's an easy read. But deals with very adult Themes. 14ish I would recommend maybe. Though that's when animal farm is usually read
