We worked together for a few years. He was from the midwest, really smart dude and the company I worked for at the time hired him and moved him out to work in the San Francisco office. (I'm WFH in another state, fwiw.)
Guy's personality was a little unsure of himself, almost like he was kind of quiet but I think it was mostly being small town midwest style of humble and now being thrown into the city. Other than that he was just a normal dude, kind of a neckbeard with a boiler (beer gut). Liked knives and weapons and stuff. Just a normal dude.
Before we hired him he was running a pretty popular opensource project in his spare time, I don't know how he had the time honestly. Not only was he doing great stuff for us but he was making free software in his spare time.
Anyway, that was a while back. I recently checked in on him and it seems those trans people got ahold of him and his impressionable mind. Fucking ruined him.
Now he's changed his name to some bastardization of his original name, his Twitter bio is full of weird pronouns I've never heard of and saying he's some sort of poly bisexual lesbian or something. I don't even know what that means. I looked at some of his posts and he's running around the proverbial halls of Twitter asking gender questions, calling "terfs" racists, trying to understand what "I don't identify as a woman, I am a woman" means. This guy went from mild mannered regular dude to the most tormented person I think I've ever met.
I looked at his github and his contributions went from daily, to weekly, to barely even contributing any longer. Guy can't hold a job anymore. Nobody will hire him, even in San Francisco. Add to this he's in California and he's been stuck in a small apartment for the past year.
Fuck these trans people. They've ruined this poor dudes life. It's on him for buying in but fuck man, I hate to see somebody so smart and great for society get wrapped up in all this. This guy is so tormented trying to figure out where he fits in with this trans thing, but at the same trying so hard to be unique, it's literally driving him insane. He's not well any longer. Knowing this dude before, and seeing him now, I can see why so many of these people end up on the wrong side of a rope.

I'd love to sit him down and ask him what happened and where it all went wrong, but I know even mentioning the subject leads to me getting blasted on Twitter and fired from my job. Whatever dude, you got yourself into this. Hate to see it but you're on your own.

Most people have thoughts and feelings that if they indulged them constantly for years and decided they are part of your identity of course they would turn into a mental illness. But if you treat those issues as external and learn to cope you come out of it intact.
Your buddy needs to realize his feelings are normal, there's no need to think he's not a man anymore. We all feel different levels of discomfort in our bodies and in this world at times. That is part of being human. Feeling like you don't belong is normal when you go through a huge culture shock like moving to SF! But that way of living isn't more "normal" than a small town.

Aaaaand this is why you need to raise your children to be actively aware of leftist degeneracy and be militant against it rather than raising them sheltered and thinking that's going to be enough to protect them.
Imagine raising a wholesome kid in a small town that's getting kind of successful... and then he lands a dream job... but it's in San Francisco. This is what happens to people that go there without the mental preparedness to handle it. While I feel bad for the dude, I can't imagine what his parents are going through.
At the root of all this is male-hating. A man with low confidence tends to default to appeasing, especially when the people who hate him won't just come out and tell him they hate him. It's a vicious feedback loop. He probably just wanted to find love, but women in his area hate him for not being masculine enough, and he has no conception of what masculine traits are, or perhaps he derides masculinity. So he does what gets attention and that puts him on this path to hell.
He should go back to his small town for some detox and a kick to the nuts from his family and friends, otherwise he might end up another suicide statistic.
All of the mentally stable gay people in public life and who I know pesonaly are those who have not allowed being gay to define who they are as individuals. It sounds like your friend has gone off the opposite deep end.

I'm worried for my niece and nephew. They are prime targets for the trans mob, and they're young enough to be easily indoctrinated. My niece idolizes her uncle (not me, on her dad's side) who's a fighter pilot. She's a total tomboy. My nephew, on the other hand, is decidedly not manly. The whole family kind of expects him to come out as gay at some point. I don't want to see them end up as trans suicide statistics.
Keep them out of the city. I'm in small town Texas, neighbors 20something beautiful daughter recently moved to Austin to take a job. Now she's all vegan and shaved her hair all off. I know where this is headed.
That may be a small deterrent. They pray on impressionable youth on online forums. If OP's niece and nephew are still children (under 18) then they should remove access to the internet as much as possible. No mobile phones and all internet use is an a public area of the home with the screen facing outward to continuously monitor use. Then involve them in sports perhaps or other group activities with non degenerates. The ship can be turned around if OP's family takes immediate and decisive steps.
Wonder if he's a victim of sissy porn? There's a genre of pornography where men are literally hypnotized to be submissive women. Prostitution is the oldest profession. Paying for sex and watching it on the internet. I don't see much of a difference as far as "moral decay".
As in all of history people paid hookers and brothels were in most towns. I don't think a magazine or internet video compares.
The availability of free porn is the difference. Sexual release is a drug and like a drug, your brain develops a dependency and a resistance. People who start developing a porn addiction have to chase increasingly perverted porn to get the same high. Because of the social influence (propaganda), its exceptionally hard to quit. Abstinence is the only cure, but easier said than done when society praises degeneracy.
Watching people have sex on the internet is uniquely different. It cannot be compared to prostitution or magazines. Again do your research.

I don't know what has happened to a bunch of people the tech community. My husband is someone who tracks open source stuff and pays attention to some really nerdy stuff. He has told me that a bunch of the main people have switched from being men to identifying as something else.
He said that he saw a thing on how there are more "women" in tech now, but when he looked into it, really it's actually the same guys, just now call themselves women. It's really bizarre what's happening.
They used the women to destroy the women.
My wife being in the medical field has often said that 20% of the population suffers from some form of mental illness / crisis at some time in their life. Knowing this you can see how some seemingly "normal" person could fall for such craziness.
Did you tell him exactly what you said above? Re; his contributions, missed opportunity... does he really know there is someone like you with a reasonable voice telling him to stop? I would tell him because he won't hear it anywhere else.
