Why doesn't Ford put the plant right on the border? That way, they can get squalid safety, shoddy quality AND utilize all that child slave labor? It'll be like the good ole days!

They do put plants miles from the Border - but in Mexico. So that 'managers' can live in the US and drive over the. border to work every day. Lots of industry is doing this.

That's largely a legacy effect of the rules before NAFTA happened. There were a lot of rules about the maquiladoras that operated within a specific area near the border. That was under Mexico's "border development program", going back something like 50 years.

It's not something set up by (as you imply) lazy and opportunistic "managers".
