I think it's because asians don't fit the lefts minority narrative. Their the smallest minority in america yet they have experienced massive success both financially and academically. They as a group are the biggest threat to the idea that "white supremacy" is responsible for all the woes of minority communities.
So they need to bring them into the fold. How better than to convince them that they are being hunted by an imaginary enemy that can never be defeated.

The media doesn't care about Asians. The media only cares about demonizing their scapegoat in such a way that it makes any defense of American values sound whatever-ist.
