I'd love to inquire why but I'm sure that's not info you want to share ;)

Heh, I don't care. My friends Smith and Wesson live with me in my house.

(along with 8 others)

When we were remodeling my house I jokingly told my wife I wanted a secret door that leads to a secret room. In retrospect maybe it wasn't such a bad idea! To answer your question, I think it's a good business idea in today's climate. Just look at the massive uptick in firearms purchases and prepping.

Always cheaper to add one on the front end of the build ;) I've been in steel for 20 years and have friends that own GC licenses to do all the rough in finish work after install. Thanks for your input

Curious as to what state you're in.

SW WA. What's up?

Just interested in regional patterns re: threat or need.

My area is pretty safe but (not my house) I live in an area where neighborhoods look like Beverly hills. Lots of money.... We're close enough to Portland OR that it wouldn't take long in a breakdown for the hoards to get here.

They are on the move, for sure.

They already have those, called prisons. Which is where the criminals should be, not released for muh woo flu

Hmmm okay

Don’t mean to shit on your idea, fren. Just reminded me of a jail cell, and how we shouldn’t have to hide from criminals in our own homes

I do agree 100% but there's many who cannot protect themselves effectively during bad times.

I think it's a great idea, basic room like shown and the add-on possibilities are endless. Like outside comms, toilet, drinking water, electricity powered by genny [separate from rest of house] , fireproofing, Outside filtered air for use after nuclear blast. We did a murphy door into a large closet area during our build. The average visitor doesn't know it's there. The market is there, lots of husbands who are gone a lot, leaving family unguarded. I might would have considered one if there had been kits available during the last build.

I was also thinkin about bolt together pre fabbed kits for that purpose. Owner picks a size and options and ship to builder/home owner to bolt together and voila... And yes, the customizing list can go on for hours depending on your area/level of threat/specific desires. Thanks for the reponse

Shit I would be more terrified having to use one. Fuck that. If I’m going down, I’m going down swinging.

1
Kramit [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

I agree with you but there's many people who would rather hide or do not have the means to protect themselves (elderly) etc.

1
Jmricht 1 point ago +1 / -0

That’s why they have kids. To protect them when they’re older. Hey Mom, if shit gets real, lock yourself in a closet.

would rather have a bunker than "safe" room. if it just stops outside people from coming in, you only delay the inevitable. a bunker can stop bombs at least

1
Kramit [S] 1 point ago +1 / -0

Agreed but not everyone has a place for a bunker and the price of a bunker is probably quite a bit more beings excavation and HVAC system to some degree or another.

I have installed strong Katy-bars on all doors that we lock at night. Would love to turn our master closet into a bullet proof room, with escape hatch, into crawlspace in case shit got overwhelming [crawl space equipped with more ammo and guns that may be needed]....you need an alternative way out of safe rooms, or they can burn you the fuck out.

2
Kramit [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's a good point. I have thought of exit up and down depending on situation and location. There is many options depending on how dedicated the customer is.

2
Final_Arbiter 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yep. You need a way out or you are trapped ducks in a barrel in a so called "Safe Room"....got to be able to get out of it, if shit goes really stupid. Just watch Panic Room, with Jodi Foster, and it will show you how vulnerable you are in one without a serendipitous escape route built in.

Agree

More along the lines of an everyday affordable safety option. Not some exotic room that only millionaires could afford

2
RBFace 2 points ago +2 / -0

How affordable?

2
Kramit [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'd say for something basic with ar500 steel door and walls only (no ceiling or flooring plate) ~ $7,500 or so installed. Obviously options like safe style door, flooring plate, ceiling plate etc etc would increase costs

I have other ideas and options in mind too. Discrete steel door bars, steel built into walls around windows etc in case of attack, you can defend a position without bullets flying through the wall etc.
