Obiden allowed Russia to publicly humiliate Joe, cross Obama's "red lines" in Syria and pretty much annex the Crimea during the Obama Administration. That was after Obama and Hillary did their embarrassing "reset" button stunt.

Then immediately after being out of office, the Democrats who were made to look like a bunch of fools, decide to get tough on Russia, probably because their pride was hurt. I suppose after decades and decades of useful idiotry, the Democrats expected to be treated with a little more respect.
