I don't think it's enough to simply live your life and be on your way anymore. Maybe it never was. If we don't apply a constant check against government power we'll be right back in this situation again in a decade -- assuming we can clean it up at all. The inaction of good people, responsible citizens, is part of the reason we're in this mess in the first place.
And I don't mean "vote every 4 years" either. That's not enough. It has to be constant pressure on our representatives or it won't work. Left to their own devices, our institutions will do what institutions inevitably do: consolidate power and rob the treasury.

Why is it illegal for this couple to defend their family without firing a single shot from people breaking into their private neighbourhood, but in DC, Americans going into a federal building that doesn't have families occupying it as a home = you can then shoot people?
So lemme get this straight... We can defend buildings from being beat up that aren't people's homes or safe zones...
But a couple with gangster commies coming to attack then in their private home can't defend themselves?
If this happened 100 years ago, the nation would've seen it warranted to shoot them for making death threats and breaking into a private community with a large, destructive mob.

We write laws to expel degenerate sociopaths from society (incarceration, banishment, death penalty, etc) so that those of us willing to participate in polite society can do so in peace. We lost that peaceful society when we started listening to degenerate scum whine and cry like babies that we weren't "tolerant" enough.
In the past I always tried to at least be somewhat tolerant of these degenerates but those days are now long past. If I'm driving down the road and see one crossing the street, well how was I supposed to know my brakes mysteriously stopped working at that moment??
