Is G00gle deleting content from user's devices?

Has anyone else had memes/photos disappear from their phone's image gallery? I don't think it's just an auto-backup issue because specifically memes featuring Trump are among those missing

Are you using Android and using their gallery ap? Then it's possible.

I am actually. Last time I got a new phone, I strayed away from Apple because of similar privacy concerns.

I disabled Google Photos from "synching" or trying to back anything up and I'm taking regular screenshots of recently saved memes to try to keep track of what is being deleted.

What do normal people do to prevent this, short of keeping physical printouts or keeping the files on CDs or a drive?
