The reason Roof Koreans aren't really known to have defended themselves against blacks is because the media did a blackout of the story using Rodney King.
Roof Koreans were organized because Radio Korea told them of the upcoming race war over a black thug girl who died shoplifting for the upteenth time. They knew blacks were after them.
They also didn't try to kill anyone and mostly shot near the vicinity of looters to scare them off. It was part of the reasoning used by the police to arrest them and some of them were unable to protect some businesses while under arrest.
Any sauce on that radio Korea stuff? Roof Koreans seemed like a natural development considering the collapse of law and order & a desire to protect their businesses. Not sure if anyone needed to be told....
The Korean and Korean-Americans already knew tensions were high because the blacks had always shown anger and disgust toward them. You can see evidence of it in mainstream hip hop at the time as well. Ice Cube HATES Koreans. I believe LL Cool J also wrote some lyrics about them as well.
I did hear that the black community in LA did not like Koreans because they owned the liquor stores in the ghetto & that somebody got killed while shoplifting at one of them & that was part of it all.
I wonder if Ice Cube is still a hater or did he mellow out once he got the family movie roles.

Ice Cube is a muslim black supremacist.
Hasn't changed at all. Just hides most of his anger a little better.
