You're never going to fix schools. You, as a parent, should teach your kids how to critically think and don't expect schools to. In fact, you'd be better off having your wife home-school then sending you child to public school.
The correct thing to do to better society is to completely defund public education 100%. But school choice where people who home-school are given a tax credit equal to essentially what they would have paid into the education system is better than nothing.
