I can't thing of anything scarier and more tyrannical than the left demanding (and approving of) "a strong, decisive [socialist] leader."
Didn't Hitler come to power, and his tactics accepted, because the historical situation nudged the people into craving, above all else, strength from its leader?
The history is important... if only for other Nations to NOT REPEAT THE HUMAN ERRORS OF THAT TIME...
Hitler came to power for several reasons - Hindenburg was a very old and sick man when elected in 1932 - Communism in Germany was actually almost mainstream - international trade agreements had greatly harmed the German Republic pre-hitler - and the Weimar republic over printed cash in the 1920's destroying it's economy - and in the voting both there were SEVENTEEN MAJOR PARTIES vying for power and a total of SIXTY THREE ON THE BALLOT... dividing the vote immensely.
Germany combined the powers of the President and the Chancellor after Hindenburg died - and Hitler took over.
ANTIFA in Germany in the 1930's (literally the same group today in the US) caused massive fear and panic in the streets - and then Hitler went nuts on the jews too.
Add in Joseph Goebbels - 100% Media/News lock-down - pure Propaganda for 8 years - and the German people never had a chance....
They did try to fight back - the White Rose Revolt was a year long resistance action - the notzees easily captured the leaders and had them executed.
Again - and history proves it over and over... when the Government becomes too powerful over the people - the death count spikes.
Good analysis but communism wasn't almost mainstream. Leftist historians try to gloss over the November revolution, but let us not forget that it was a full on Marxists revolution.
The Communist party got 14% of the National vote in 32' - the Socialist Party (not notzees) got 24%... that is basically 1/3 Germany voting commy pinko at that time. (and that was a very very different time then today)
