And General Lee was personally against slavery too.

However, southern Democrats didn’t end the practice and kept pushing for years leading up to the war to keep their slaves. Then after the way, Democrats kept trying to keep black people under their heel.

Slavery wasn’t the only reason for war, but it was a very big part of it. You can argue it’s about their money, but you’d be neglecting how the south was able to compete; which is slavery. It makes money. I mean hell, look at China.

You're absolutely right. We have the benefit of hindsight and historical documentation on this one, but I can imagine the vast majority of Southerners at the time didn't care one way or another about slavery and were much more concerned with trying to live their lives without the overreach of the federal government.

Lincoln started the war because he wanted the tariff money and knew that the south would flourish if they succeeded. Slavery had nothing to do with it
