Full-time job? You will be lucky to get one of those in blue shithole states. As it stands, that is only reserved for the peons that served maybe a decade of their time on part-time labor to those who already have a degree.

I know of too many people that have at least 3 jobs just to barely get by. The crazy policies that the communist leadership have made acquiring a full time job significantly harder. Clearly this was by design.

KekistanPM 47 points ago +49 / -2

As a blue city resident, I totally concur.

I know two liberals and one conservative who are jobless. The conservative is pissed that he got laid off from his last opportunity due to downsizing, and is job seeking with a passion. The two liberals don't seem motivated and they're also depressed. I've been nudging them both to take it seriously and look hard. One of them is now trying to get into a trade, the other one is still relying on a government service to find them one despite no success for almost six months. I'm trying to meet them in person to try to help them get out of their funk.

Working as unskilled labor for someone w regular work as a mason, drywaller, roofer, painter, etc. is better money and waaaaaay more fun than soy-tier retail. You do have to stop being a little bitch though, so most modern Americans cant take it and prefer being service employees.

Gnometard 6 points ago +6 / -0

Manufacturing is getting too woke. I'm thinking about finding my way into working with this stuff. I'm currently an industrial electrician so learning to wire a house shouldn't be a big leap.

6
Destineed369 6 points ago +6 / -0

I disagree. I’m a chef. Restaurant work is service industry. Hotel work and convenience store work is service industry.

Trades usually involve the creation of more. House. Infrastructure etc. trades are a net positive (in addition to the fact skilled tradesmen make great money) where as service industry is just static economy.

Dontdoxxxmeplease -10 points ago +2 / -12

Trades are a service You dumb mouth breather.

1
learntocode 1 point ago +1 / -0

I am pretty dumb. I also can be correct on something from time to time. When a company builds a house for a client, they are performing a service but they are assembling and manufacturing a finished good on site. That is a special kind of "service" and thus placed in a special category apart from something that is purely a service with no tangible manufactured goods at the end. Plus, I didnt come up with labels but they seem to work, so whatever.

Get a job, get a house, get a coffin;

Don't stray from the path, remain where you at,

That maximizes our profit;

Is that blunt? Oh well, hell, so's this boot;

We live to hear you say "please don't shoot";

A pure delight, c'mon, make my night,

When I file reports what's right's what I write.

It's sad. There were jobs everywhere under Trump. Now, those jobs are going away, because that's what Democrats do - give all the jobs to foreigners.

ManateeRanMild 19 points ago +19 / -0

I am in the Soviet State of PA. Been a temp at a major company for 3.5 years with no sign of getting hired. No temps get hired, ever. We make up about 40% of the company's workforce. No sick days. No vacation. No 401k. No future. There are 2 other biotech companies in my area, and they only hire temps too. There are no permanent jobs.

15
learntocode 15 points ago +16 / -1

Guys that build block walls, driver commercial vehicles, trim trees, pave roads, repair electric and plumbing, they have work, no? Go waste some time there. Same benefits package and you will learn skills that can carry you somewhere other than pointless office work.

15
ManateeRanMild 15 points ago +15 / -0

I am a woman and weak as hell. I am a biochemist, so it's not office work. Given the chance, I would rather be a housewife. Trying to sock away some money so I can quit this BS. I was way happier as a stay at home mom.

5
Farmerbob1 5 points ago +6 / -1

Have you considered moving? I would think biochemistry might be a useful skill in states with large farming communities, like Nebraska, Iowa, Montana, etc.

No clue what your specialty is though, or of it has overlap with pest control or crop yields.

Pede3 1 point ago +1 / -0

I would say that outsourcing and importing tons of H1Bs (supply>>demand) drove wages down more than anything. People come from China newly married and go to grad school here, get their buddies to hire them at big pharma and bring the rest of their family to the US. Pharma is happy because they don't have to make any long term commitments/no severance or benefits and can obviously pay much less than a FTE. The FTE positions can go to PhDs in management. I was also fooled into thinking this would be a stable life, and have been spending the first half of my 40s working in an unrelated temp job without any future as well.

2
ManateeRanMild 2 points ago +2 / -0

Exactly why I am encouraging my boys to go the trade route vs. college. A degree even in a legitimate major like the sciences is not a path to a stable life with decent pay or benefits.

-2
Ktt8404 -2 points ago +4 / -6

Don’t use the “I am a woman and weak” excuse. Barring a medical condition there is no reason you can’t learn a trade like Commercial driving, or electrician. I drive trucks for Amazon until I get some more OTR experience and am more employable but I see several smaller women driving the big scary trucks.

2
operatorstorm712 2 points ago +2 / -0

She said she would prefer being a stay at home mom...trucking isn't exactly a home centric profession.

Although, Manatee, have you considered learning a skill that is more conducive to your abilities and tastes that might garner you a little pocket money? (Odd jobs have been a bit of a sideline for me all my life -- always good to be able to do them during lean times or when you want a little pocket jingle)

4
Fabius 4 points ago +4 / -0

This is the new way.

If you're white man and expecting to have some office career, you're fucked. It's all about "diversity" and women now. They pay them less, they treat them like shit, and unlike white men, they put up with it.

Learn a trade. Make money. Buy a house. Have a family.

3
Romanfun61 3 points ago +3 / -0

And all the companies that do that type of work eventually get to the size of needing cubicle hamsters AKA pointless office workers. So unless you're a sole proprietor which by definition means you're not creating jobs office work is not pointless. Coming at you from the point of an RGN Heavy Haul truck driver.

14
Ducki305 14 points ago +14 / -0

That sounds like Hewlett Packard. Over 40% are contractors with no benefits and shit pay. They won't even let contractors use the Hewlett Packard facilities like the employee gym.

1
Pede3 1 point ago +1 / -0

If the temp workers are given the same access to benefits as a FTE, there are potential legal ramifications. They will try to argue that they are a regular employee if they have the same access. I heard this once when we couldn't let a contract worker even go to lunch with us (not HP).

18
Major_Nutt 18 points ago +18 / -0

The entire way we handle employment in this country is bullshit. One shouldn't have to spill their entire life story, have a resume, and enter all of that information again online, just to bag groceries.

9
Yeeticus 9 points ago +9 / -0

I’m applying to jobs right now and the number of employers asking for references with the initial application is too damn high. Giving out my personal info is one thing, but giving out the personal info of others in an initial app is sketchy. I’ve already had one place I applied to (who never contacted me) pass on my contact info to someone else without my permission. I don’t appreciate it.

6
justicein2020 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm also pretty sure some of those places turn around and sell your references contact info.

Because why wouldn't they? Ethics? lol!

6
BadManOrange 6 points ago +6 / -0

References are a ton of horseshit anyway. I get it for an executive level position where people need to know that you're legit. However, anything else? Bunch of bullshit.

3
Romanfun61 3 points ago +3 / -0

The only reference a person needs is there work history unless it's an entry level position. But that's why it's called an entry level position so you can build a work history.

7
24601 7 points ago +7 / -0

Only legal citizens of the USA need to do all that...

If you want a real job, you need to renounce your USA citizenship and move to Central America... and then come back in through the open border as a "immigrant"

2
operatorstorm712 2 points ago +2 / -0

Worse than that -- they can go check out your social media too. References are one thing (I don't mind giving them; they've been rather necessary in my profession along with background checks), but combing through your social media is something else.

13
kyblugrass 13 points ago +15 / -2

The highlight of the Obama era economic and healthcare policies, creating regulations for markets that discourage offering any fulltime entry level work. The real entry level then required a Masters and 10 years pertinent job experience.

1

This is a good start, but we could add a few more to get it to a 10 Commandments:

  1. Do not use alcohol or drugs to numb emotional pain.

  2. Choose your spouse with extreme care.

  3. Save more than you spend.

  4. Vote in your own interests.

  5. Do not commit a crime.

  6. Pursue moral/spiritual education within a community.

  7. Be a strict parent.

6

6
Mathelm 6 points ago +6 / -0

As a guy who has taken the path of most resistance, It's really not that hard if you are somewhat competent in finishing school, if you're older and working FT and taking 4 classes it's hard and sucks but if an ounce of effort is put towards it, you can get by with C's and get a degree and go forth.
Oh well Doesn't matter, I want to leave this shithole big city, and get a job w/ an American company and actually get paid real money not these BS dollaridoos.

5
KekistanPM 5 points ago +5 / -0

Bad teachers and bad parenting can hold someone back though.

I know someone who was worried they wouldn't graduate high school because a certain teacher seemed to have it in for them and didn't want to pass them for some reason. I never heard the teacher's side of the story though.

3
operatorstorm712 3 points ago +3 / -0

Eh, I don't know about that. Based on my own experience if a student is a real problem, the teachers are more tempted to pass them just to get them the hell out of their hair.

I have seen some that get petty and vindictive, but it's usually fucking up their GPA so they can't get into AP/get scholarships or they have to go to summer school -- never not graduate.

PSA: neither attitude is the correct one to take...although I do understand the first one (the rumors are true; right before the start of a semester that was me, kneeling and praying "please, pluuuuleeeeze Jesus, I don't want to see X in my class again, please!")

2
24601 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just make good decisions.

There are plenty of homeless people who made "nearly" all the "right" decisions.

The difference between a millionaire and a homeless beggar is one or two partially less "good" decisions. Life is like a chaotic attractor

2
Cacciali_Via 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not sure i believe that. I have some family that has made a lifelong habit of shit decision and they have never been on the streets homeless.

To become homeless and stay there for any length of time takes drug addiction or mental illness.

1
DJTrump 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't believe this at all. Imo it takes hundreds of decisions good or bad, maybe more. Life is literally what you make of it, and if you are a literal homeless bum with no hope because you're so fucked now... you made a shit ton of really terrible obviously-bad decisions.

So many of you people are always ranting about schools indoctrinating the youth, but now because Prager said stay in school, everyone's jumping onto the bandwagon that school=good.

5
BadManOrange 5 points ago +5 / -0

Sure, schools are shit at this point, but job opportunities are almost 0 if someone doesn't have a high school degree. The need for college is debatable considering there are many ways to make a good living without a college degree.

3
NoCoupForYou 3 points ago +4 / -1

Praeger said finish High School or Equivalent. Not go to college for the sake of going to college.

3
deleted 3 points ago +4 / -1
2
JackIsALarp 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you need a degree for your personal vision, there are ways to get around most of the programming. For example, you can skip a large chunk of your lower division online, by using the ACE credit transfers, or the similar CLEP exams through a community college transfer degree agreement. Its all possible, but the hardest part is often the physical sciences and similar, since they are often in person.

The true problem of education is the over-selling of it. In many cases, it's simply not required. In other cases, it's a must. FAFSA handing out loans like candy really destroyed the relationship between student and college. That economic balance is toast.

Remember, the reason capitalism is so important is that its the closest relationship between oneself and products/services. While this seems superficial, it truly is not. Think about it, observe it in reality, and then apply those same relationships to the student:college relationship. One will quickly see how one-sided that has become due to the government intercepting that balance.

1

1)But imagine being one of five black kids with a single mom growing up in baltimore. Imagine trying to walk through gangs on your way to work every day, hopping on the train or the bus to go make minimum wage when you could just work the corner at night selling crack and making what you make in 3 months in one night.

2)Imagine trying to graduate high school when 1.0 GPA is in the top 25% of your class. System is often broken not always the kids.

  1. This one is doable.
2
Cacciali_Via 2 points ago +2 / -0

If you leave for work in the morning as most people do, the dregs of humanity are still in bed.

  1. Live below your means. You don’t need the latest/greatest iPhone, car, clothes etc.
  2. Invest 10% of your earnings in an S&P 500 index fund. Do these when you are young and get a 7 figure net worth when you’re middle age. If your employer offers a 401k match, take advantage as its free money.

Can confirm personally that this works.

2

I wonder why PragerU decided to use 21 as the age for having kids?

That seems like an arbitrary number based on the drinking age. I guess they’re saying that if you have kids you’re going to want to drink, so make sure you can do it legally?

2
iDinduNuffin 2 points ago +2 / -0

I guess it's carrying on the nuclear family thing where kids are supposed to be booted out on their own when they hit 18 and "find themselves" before settling down.

With a larger family like on family farms and stuff kids can become financially stable and responsible enough to raise their own by the time the rest of us are snorting adderall in college. That'd go a long way toward reversing our failing birthrates though, so gotta make sure we worry more about becoming middle-class and buying our own McMansion in the suburbs

1
Yeeticus 1 point ago +1 / -0

It’s also the age the average person graduates college.

1
Liberty4All 1 point ago +1 / -0

Also, if you're not going to college, working in the trades or other blue-collar fields, the money is a lot better after you have some experience and learn some skills on the job.

Most people are significantly more mentally and emotionally mature at 21 than at 18. A few years' experience living as an adult probably helps prospective parents make better financial decisions, too.

2
ak83 2 points ago +2 / -0

this is true.

My family was very poor, so a few dollars had to go a long way, and if we could save money we would always. married at 28, 4 kids later with a full time job for close to 20 years now, Im still as cheap as I was when I was poor, but I make considerably more than both of my parents did combined, and any big purchases are usually investments in land, stocks, physical assets, etc. My kids are home schooled so they can learn real life skills, not bullshit gender studies.

1
TehAgent 1 point ago +1 / -0

I am part of the 7%. I mean I have kept a full time job (at the same place) for 16 years now, but up to age 25 I was in and out of full time work. I did keep most of them for a couple years at a time, then had a period of unemployment where I kinda just partied, then got another job. I had a kid at 18, conceived at 17. Did not graduate and technically never got a GED. I did well in school when I showed up; scored high in standardized tests and was always top of the class just behind that one Asain dude or chick. I just dicked around a lot and quit showing up because it was boring...not because I was dumb.

This is just teaching people to be worker drones. They should really be working with the kids interests in life and inspiring them to learn skills and offer value to society. But of course teachers don't actually give a fuck.

They're not saying work 60 hour weeks or even try to work your way to management or executive positions. Honestly, I think people work way too much in this country, but that's the other side of the coin.

And some lesser subpoints.

  1. Have a budget. Stick with it.
  2. Save a percentage of your income every month and don't touch it.
  3. Have separate savings for emergencies (car repairs, unexpected bills).
  4. Don't buy lottery tickets. Don't gamble. Don't smoke. Vices are expensive.
  5. Stay out of debt.

The ‘poverty’ they live in off the taxpayer is still probably more comfortable than 99% of humans who have ever lived.

Keeping a fulltime job in the current economy is utopic. This graphic was maybe appropriate 30 years ago.
