You can serve by being a great human being to people around you. You serve by honoring agreements that you enter into voluntarily. You serve by honoring your parents, siblings and spouse. You serve by understanding the noble, ethical and financially wise founding principles of the nation you reside in. You serve by respecting yourself in all the things you do, think and feel.
The pomp, the circumstance, the medals and the titles of military distinction are dubious understandings of "serving". You serving the community around you, including yourself is serving your nation.
The federal government is not the nation. The people of the respective states are the nation.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I’m an entrepreneur at the moment and it’s looking like there’s a need for actual businesspeople to push basic civics and socially responsible capitalism politically. I’m already pursuing a precinct captain position for the GOP even if only to better understand the sausage-making process. I’m pushing myself physically, practicing mindfulness, addressing psychological issues that are not current problems but would fester and become problems, and calling out bullshit wherever I see it. I will continue doing all these things, but I know that more needs to be done. I’ll figure out how to do more on my own eventually, but do you have any other suggestions?
The only other suggestion is more of a caution. Remember that you are human and have tolerances. In other words, don't burn yourself out. Don't forget to delegate when you're able.
Thank you. We live in a broken world, but it has so much potential. It’s hard to hold back and focus on resolving specific problems when there are so many low hanging fruits.
