I think people just fail to understand basic math here. They see 90% effective at reducing severe cases of COVID, which lead to the majority of deaths and they think its a huge impact for them.
But, its not a 90% chance to prevent severe COVID. Your chance of dying of COVID is around 0.1 to 0.2% if you're an average person. So that 90% is taking you from a 10 in 10,000 to 20 in 10,000 chance of dying to a 1 in 10,000 to 2 in 10,000 chance.
For perspective, if you woke up every morning, loaded a 10,000 chamber revolver with 10 bullets, spun the cylinder, pointed it at your head and pulled the trigger, it would take almost 30 years before the odds are that you would kill yourself.
If you're over 65 or compromised, by all means consider whether the risk of an experimental drug is outweighed by the protection it provides, but for most people its simply not worth it.
Agreed, but I would even say more like 75-80+ years old
With the treatment methods we have learned about over the last year, it’s totally manageable for older people. It’s only when you get past the average life expectancy does the thought of a vaccine for this MAYBE make sense.
But would you spin that cylinder every morning and fire it at your head every morning if you didn't have to? And would you want your friends and family to? Is your mathematical thinking really that simple?
Was at work the other day and was told by my coworkers, that they had to wear masks while around me because even though they can't get the virus after getting the vaccine it can still be in their nasal passages and they can pass it to me that way. So they have have to wear masks around me for my own safety.

It's the equivalent to saying "ok, you can still get pregnant but your morning sickness will be less and your hemorrhoids will be smaller." lol
Yeah. Whats the upside?

I'm still never getting that vaccine.
It's leaky. This mass vaccination is massive massive massive mistake. "Leaky" not "perfect"
Your coworkers are fucked inside Their Brains.
Keep up the good fight.
