In halal slaughter, the animal must be alive and active. The Muslim invokes their demon-god by saying "Bismillah allahu akbar!" and cuts the animals' throat side to side, severing both arteries, but without decapitating the animal.
The animal then suffers, fully awake and screaming, struggling for life, as it slowly and painfully bleeds to death.
Know what halal certification and symbols look like (they vary in each country). Carefully examine store fronts, menus, advertising, and packaging for these symbols. Do not purchase or eat any food with these symbols and stop patronizing those businesses immediately. Write and tell them WHY they've lost your money and support. Share this information with others.
Muslims reject modern forms of slaughter such as stunning the animal first as being "un-Islamic." Funny how Muslims don't reject other forms of modern life, like air travel and cell phones, but sparing animals a horrible, lingering, painful death? Nope, can't have that in Islam.
Keep some laying hens whenever possible. I know not everyone can, but when you raise your own fresh eggs and meat you know how it lived, what it was fed, and how it died.
