i think i do. the dollar index (dxy) is stable at about 90, a little lower from the highs of 106 during trump admin but not too crazy. the lumber futures are tipping 1k, up from 300 from last year. the overwhelming majority of the cost differential is due to the lumber increase, not the dollar decrease.
fine.. then compare it to the purchasing power index or chapwood index. you're still not going to account for more than 20% of the price increase. but go ahead, listen to x22 report and buy bitcoin and blackpills or something.
Oh, it's definitely more than 1 factor. Uneducated economist on youtube does a great job following lumber prices. But the Dxy price not moving doesn't mean the currency isn't falling. The DXY is a relative indicator, as most things are. You are both right
try to exist without that paper kindling, errr, money. Go to any store and try to purchase something on goodwill or trade. Everything is based on "paper kindling". Even precious bitcoin needs to be converted to cash at some point if you want to pay your mortgage, buy milk, bread, fill up your car etc. at which point it too is susceptible to inflation.
True, inflation does have an impact, but not (yet) to this extent in our situation (as opposed to Germany's hyper inflation of 1921-23). If this price difference was primarily based on inflation then everything would have gone up in price by massive amounts, and that just isn't the case. Prices have increased across the board, but not by this amount. This has to do more with supply and demand.
Updooted. But stfu with that shit!!! When they start offering it there gonna have to chang the whole "going postal" thing, gonna have to change it to "going former advertising salesman"!
You will build your mini house, and you will like it.
Presumptuous of you to think you're going to build a mini house. Building requires skill, and an associated degree of independence. Those aren't allowed. You'll get a prefab from China shipped to you.
Dude OSB has literally doubled in price, and I’m in the fuckin northeast. Depot couldn’t give the shit away before. Under 20$ a sheet. It’s 32$ a sheet now. They even moved it as to not bring attention to it. 2x4’s are 5 bucks a pop. Guys are gonna start using 2x3’s to build again, not even kiddin
yep... and in 2006 my great uncle bought the materials for and build a 4200 sq ft house for 62K... in 2021 our rebuild on a 1400 sq foot costs 175K....
I worked the security gate at a lumber yard for years. Thats NOTHING. One dude blew his tranny right at the gate after I scanned him out lol. No, not that kind of tranny you sicko.
Lumber sequesters carbon out of the atmosphere and locks it into a house, fences, decks, and furniture. We needs to lower lumber prices to save the Earth. Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedd!
This is true. A friend of mine who has been doing some construction recently mentioned how ridiculously expensive lumber is now. It's only going to get worse. I live in Oregon and the Democrats here are hammering away trying to drive the last nail into the coffin of our logging industry. They have a bill up right now to eliminate all petroleum based diesel fuel.
After the first covid checks went out people cleared out the lumber yard I worked at in a matter of weeks and when I left this past july people were still waiting weeks to be able to pick up their orders.
Broooo most people dont get how serious this price hike is. I legit was buying 8ft 2x3s for i kid you not, 75 cents just a few years ago, they are nearly 4 dollars right now. I am just a tinkerer but I have about 5k worth of woodworking tools in my garage and I had to just start reclaiming wood for projects rather than buying new.
Not far from the truth. $540 for a pallet of T&G 1 year ago, now its $1000. Not worth doing any work. A story online is saying that a new house now has approx. $16,000 worth of extra costs due to lumber prices rising.
The reason lumber is up is because of the last big hurricane that destroyed an entire lumber yard in Texas. I know because I work in the home construction industry. Almost all homes have gone up 20,000+ no matter what square footage
Yep, I built a bed about a year ago using 2x4s and 2x8s and it cost me less than $150 for the entire project. Me and my husband are thinking of redoing our basement into a master bed/bath and went to Lowe’s yesterday to see what all they had and the price of lumber is ridiculous now. We’re still going to do it but now it’s going to cost a lot more and thus more time to complete.
Well picture isn’t the best as there is only one more layer of lumber and the rest is gypsum board (drywall). I guess you could argue building materials have gone up that much which is true, but yea lumber has as well. Fortunately my hunting ranch also serves as a tree farm for lumber so this isn’t all bad news for me as an individual l, but terrible for the price of new homes, which I may be in the market for again soon.
Lumberyards slowed way down because "muh Shanghai Shivshivs" and the price of lumber shot way up once supply got weird. Now that processes and supply have stabilized, the lumber tycoons are hesitant to offer fair pricing again.
The prices aren't going up. It's the value of the dollar that has gone down.
no the prices are up. i've been using cinderblock for the last year because its cheaper.
I'm not sure you understand what he was saying.
i think i do. the dollar index (dxy) is stable at about 90, a little lower from the highs of 106 during trump admin but not too crazy. the lumber futures are tipping 1k, up from 300 from last year. the overwhelming majority of the cost differential is due to the lumber increase, not the dollar decrease.
Stable . . . against a basked of currencies that are going to shit just as quickly.
fine.. then compare it to the purchasing power index or chapwood index. you're still not going to account for more than 20% of the price increase. but go ahead, listen to x22 report and buy bitcoin and blackpills or something.

Hahah okay, enjoy your paper kindling . . . errr, money.
i'd rather have lumber..

It's both
That is because you are selfish. How dare you want a normal size house?
You will build your mini house, and you will like it.
Your luxurious 2 bedroom homes are a thing of the past.
We need to save the planet. We need to be able to live beyond 2030.

We'll get a damn grave at this rate.
I'm over the Mc Mansions. What I would like is a new 2 bedroom 2 bathroom house
Single man plan
Save the planet by conserving on lumber use, a renewable resource. lol

LOL That guy's back suspension is fucked
I worked the security gate at a lumber yard for years. Thats NOTHING. One dude blew his tranny right at the gate after I scanned him out lol. No, not that kind of tranny you sicko.
Biden isn’t destroying the economy, he’s saving trucks!
And it looks like the cargo strap cut the sheetrock in half.
That guy's an asshole for even trying to drive that load.
I guess he never considered making two trips!
Joggers can get 3x the top pic for free.
Learn to jog.

Pasture is great at it,ignoring the fact we are getting a bit low on it atmosphere wise.read Joel saladin.

Prices are up here too though. We couldnt even get PT last summer, lots of people going for cedar instead.
breaks out the brown stain
"Yes it's Pressure Treated.."
Better soak that bitch overnight, that’s how I can tell. When I go to pick it up and it weighs as much as concrete
Trains and businesses stuff still go thru as easy as a Pakistani thru ny
Lumber prices are ridiculous up here too..
I think regardless of where you are they blame a shutdown somewhere else in the world..
Thank God every Mexican Carrys 7 whole trees wi them!!! Expect a drop in lumber cost with all the DampBacks crossing!!!!!!
Now do ammo.
these are covid prices. but yeah these prices will not come back down. get used to it pleb.
After the first covid checks went out people cleared out the lumber yard I worked at in a matter of weeks and when I left this past july people were still waiting weeks to be able to pick up their orders.

Believe in yourself like the guy in the first pic believes in his truck's suspension
what suspension** IT'S GONE !!**
Is the value of existing homes going up in compensation?
Yes. Some of the prices that homes are selling for is making me do a double take.
Not far from the truth. $540 for a pallet of T&G 1 year ago, now its $1000. Not worth doing any work. A story online is saying that a new house now has approx. $16,000 worth of extra costs due to lumber prices rising.
Yeah I wanted to do a project looked at prices said maybe later in life.
The reason lumber is up is because of the last big hurricane that destroyed an entire lumber yard in Texas. I know because I work in the home construction industry. Almost all homes have gone up 20,000+ no matter what square footage
hmmm.. I think it is time to invest into a Wood Mill . can get logs cheap to free. just Mill the lumber and sell them to YOU :D
btw. hard to believe what you show there is 800.. from what i can tell you would be spending like $10 or more per board
Its an exaggeration dipshit. Like when you tell your Family members you have above average intelligence.
look at you with your panties in a bunch

Time to use your own wood. Not in the pants but tree trimmings and chops

Made 2 raised garden beds last year and decided I wanted 2 more this year. Literally played double the price for 2x6s.
Where you buying your lumber ?
inflation

Sorry, but the price of sheetrock and lumber an dpvc had already increased a lot by 2018.
This might be true if it were 1998 compared to 2021
Watch your mouth son!!!!!!
This much of a disparity can't be real.
Lol
Ask me about OSB.
