Far too often people read some sort of vast conspiracy into the actions of people like this when the reality is that there has always been a section of the GOP that never really cared about anything other than their taxes being threatened by democrats, and only paying some lipservice to some of the other causes important to flyover Americans, so they saw Trump as some existential threat and were all to happy to "kick him out" so they could go back to business as usual.
They are also pathetic social climbing ego maniacs. Little people who DEMAND to be respected and believe they are just entitled to lavishness simply based on their title
