The problem is, (which makes our effort look really bad and lose a lot of support), is that "gender" is just not the same as biological sex, when it comes to our collective lexicon. Society is changed forever now, because the reality is that there are a shit ton of 'trans' people who experience their gender-identity to be what's in their head and not what their body is. There must be a label for what that form of identity is, and it is now 100% entrenched that this label is "gender". That is never going to change, at this point.
The real issue, therefore, is whether or not they can leverage that legally, as in being treated as a biological female if their "gender" is 'female'. And whether or not it is 'hateful' and 'phobic' to NOT comply with their labels and instead refer to them based on biological sex.
That's where the battle is, and when we continue to reject the new reality, by demanding that "gender" and biological sex are the same thing, then we look like dinosaur fools. Even fence-sitters will see us as petulant assholes who are in denial and are deliberately trolling. And trolling against people with a mental illness who suffer such depression that their suicide rates are insanely high makes us look like raging scumbags.
Society is being successfully brainwashed and gas-lit into thinking that trans-women 'are real women' and that not using preferred pronouns is 'hate' and 'trans-phobia'. That is actually happening and we're not successfully stopping it. Petulant trolling is greasing those skids. Circle-jerking over memes while the real world goes to hell is not worth it. A mature and compassionate attitude toward this issue could have steered our societal sense-making into sanity from the get-go, but nope...here we are in clown-world and our juvenility was a huge part in bringing us here.
