Congrats, get ahead of it mentally, be sure you examine every scenario you can contemplate and work it out in your head ahead of time. The mental aspect is the important part of having a gun. You can train and learn to shoot or maintain it, but if you don't develop the proper mental aspect it is a liability rather than a defensive Tool.
If you ever must use it you don't have time to figure out what to do, you must prepare mentally to act instantly, you must train enough to be able to do that.
A .22 is a fun gun but for self defense you really want something else, most people anyhow. I carry mine when I'm walking the dog because hogs and coyotes, but if I'm out and about I caliber up.
