So, I sometimes wonder where society is heading and with the coronavirus and the response by the scientists with the mRNA vaccine and other things I have to begin to wonder where things are going. Because we are entering into virtual insanity.

What I describe as Virtual Insanity is where ever part of nature is a choice. Your sex, skin color, eye color, race (human or non-human), or even further skills, outlook on life, mentality, personality, culture. Almost like you get a character customization bar in a video game.

I have no doubt that nanomachines that can interact on a DNA level or mRNA treatments, followed with macro-level surgery can effectively allow for such customization in the future. Even more worrisome would be the invention of some sort of matrix/video game that is life+.

Humans in such a state, effectively would stop being humans. The typical natural goal in life is to survive and reproduce and all other human behaviors are vestigial from that goal. Why certain colors are appealing and other disgust? Why we find babies cute and find people ugly? Why we don’t just become fat and eat whatever we want?

If we kill the goal, the emptiness of meaning will devour us. Every Vestigial part comes collapsing down, as vestigial. We are already seeing this in many parts of our culture as with the cosmetic man and women that dictate themselves as trans-men and trans-women. A lot of argumentation on the innateness of being a man or women for us hinges on the chromosomal component, but if science discovers a way to change that, that argument fails. Personally I use my solution to the ship of Theseus argument, which is that so long as it has history as the ship of Theseus with a part derived from the ship of Theseus then it is the ship of Theseus. Or to say that a man is a man because they were born with a penis and have history of living with their penis in a natural state and no matter how many times they chop it off and get a new one, they are still a man.

I, however, think that the great filter and why we don’t see alien species everywhere comes down to the rebuffing of this goal. What is left to desire if you could do it virtually? The only reason Neo left the matrix is because he had a desire to. But desires are derived from the human brain which is derived from the goal of survive and reproduce. If you kill that goal, the human brain is no longer derived and desires are no longer derived. It is virtual insanity.

And with the death of desires, comes the death of everything that could be called human. It is not worth preserving. It is pure abject nihilism. The only solution I can think of is the nietzschéen idea of the Uber-Mensch or Philosopher King Society, wherein the entire goal of society shifts from the goal of survive and reproduce to find a goal or reason, but even then there may be no evidence that we find one.
