Exactly. The system is designed to take the local and work your way up. School boards need you, committees, trustees, local politics and so on. Last I heard there are 200k empty political seats in the USA literally waiting for anyone. You either take that seat with your values and standards or someone worse than you takes that seat. You build up from that seat.
