Honestly I think it had less to do with the Corona virus in more to do with the DC rioting. Once it came out the he quote unquote gased protesters, then went down to the church for a quote unquote photo op, his approval went down pretty sharply, When before it was pretty stable. Many people said that they approved the Coronavirus handling under Trump early on, but after all the BLM stuff it came crashing down. The footage CNN had of the protesters at DC colliding with the cops got tens of millions of views, I think that was the most effective part of the smear campaign against Trump. The Corona virus really didn't do anything to change people's votes one way or the other.
Cucking out on the riots (while still getting the bad press of being a hardliner lol) was definitely the worst of all possible worlds, but Trump not getting a second term wasn't about his approval because....

The reason that his decisive electoral victory didn't matter was voter fraud, and the cover story that made voter fraud possible was the Fake Virus.
No virus > no mail in ballots > no fake counting etc.
Which would mean Trump's victory would have been acknowledged.

I've tried to find the opinions on people who didn't vote for Trump the second time but did the first time, and most of them mentioned how he reacted to the BLM situation as a main reason. I also think the numbers bear it out, but I do agree that the restructuring of the election system to allow for mailing ballots as well as turning election day into election season was not a good thing. Add on to the fact that Republicans were willing to look the other way while all this was being done, And you can see how the system got rigged, and the Corona virus made it possible. The time magazine article laid it down pretty well, there was a lot of rigging, but it's a lot more sophisticated than just manipulating the mail. The virus boosted turnout, and created a lot more anti-Trump voters than there would have been without it.
Trump said it was a hoax in the beginning. He should've stuck to his guns instead of falling their trap. Covid is the reason he isn't president today.
If they wanted to play games, he should've postponed the election until "the virus" went away. Everything would've returned to normal instantly.
