That's 100% true. I did 8 years, got out in the midst of Obama's bullshit. You are 100% better off using the GI Bill to get the education to get into a powerhouse career than sitting out 20 years just so your body is fucked, you're too old to get into a new career and you're making 50% of your enlisted man's pay for the rest of your life. Retirement ain't worth it compared to getting out and using the benefits while you're young, not with the bullshit the military will put you through.
It's unfortunate for one of my children because they do well in a military environment (even during Obama's bullshit). However, this is that bullshit on steroids -- sometimes you have to know when to walk away. Unfortunately, they re-upped three years ago *this is why no one should try to predict the future, so one more to go.
For the most part -- their military careers (and the free schooling) have set them up rather well, so I'm not worried about that. It is concerning to see the "conservative" witch hunts though. My kids stay away from all things political (a good way to be in the military), but they have blundered in going on social media supporting a moderate approach to many topics...and that's enough to get you branded a right wing extremist these days, which can make it difficult to get hired.

I did good in the Army, but I do even better as an engineer with that experience behind me. I'm sure your kids have good heads on their shoulders!
