Jared Kushner is giving our favorite President bad advice and is going to ensure President Trump spins his wheels while enriching himself and his friends.
He should be creating a payment processor. I swear, the current move really seems like 2D chess. People should be proactive, not reactive. He may feel hurt because he was censored, but we have Alt-Tech already, and we don't just need his branding on a clone of it.
We have Gab, while Big Tech has multiple products with tens of millions of conservatives that are still stuck on them. This dooming about how he needs to go to Gab is silly. We have no idea what Trump will launch and I expect it to be something narrow that allows him to control his voice himself.
There is no reason for the President to rely on a 3rd party network. In fact, none of us should -- which I why I won't touch Gab. What would be helpful would be open source tech where we could build our own tech stack surrounding the public square (i.e., what the internet was supposed to be).
I'll look through their tech again as a matter of practice and still expect this problem to be solved through cryptography. We'll know we're over the target when they begin regulation on blockchains that compete with corporate America's interest over our own.

Not sure exactly what you mean here, crypto is part of many of Gab's interconnected systems. Crypto in and of itself is just a tool. The specific implementation is what matters.
IN any case I only intend to suggest that you should be open to considering Gab or really any other service. Like you said, give it a thorough investigation first to make sure you actually agree to their terms before signing up.
Regulation needs to be re-written to end the consumption of the Town Square by a single political party. That's really it for me here. I like a lot of the "ideas" around a "new social media xyz", none of this matters when a handful of board rooms control the entire system. It must be decentralized and restored to an open sourced community driven operating system.
Twitter, for example, must be forced to open their network. After Jack is thrown in prison, of course.
Gab is too "old" and has too many people involved, and for all its age, seems to have an attack surface. I'm glad to hear Trump's timeline for his own platform is several months because that is what it would take to design and implement a functional and secure network from the ground up with a bit of a/b testing.
It did not cost hundreds of millions for gab. And it doesn’t need to give a shit about Europe or foreign countries - at least not for a while. The time involved is a bigger issue, but if you have the right people who know how to scale out the framework it could be a year.
Stop blaming Kushner. If Trump is so weak that he can't say no to advisors, or has no better ideas of his own, then you shouldn't be listening to him anyway.
President Trump should've just gone onto Gab.

Gab is a fork of Mastodon, which is precisely what you've described:
https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2019/07/statement-on-gabs-fork-of-mastodon/
Despite Mastodon being a decentralized platform, as you can see from the above link, even open source projects can become overrun by ideologues.
So given your stated position, you may want to reconsider Gab, since it is what you say you want in a service.

So did you you use your network to post this comment?
Identi.ca has been around as long as twitter... but nobody outside of the FLOSS community used it because it didn't have "celebrities"

And vet the people properly.
At scale and not on AWS in would take years and hundreds of millions.

You should look up how much vc funding gab raised.
Bingo.
At scale and without existing infrastructure it would take years.
