expect this problem to be solved through cryptography

Not sure exactly what you mean here, crypto is part of many of Gab's interconnected systems. Crypto in and of itself is just a tool. The specific implementation is what matters.

IN any case I only intend to suggest that you should be open to considering Gab or really any other service. Like you said, give it a thorough investigation first to make sure you actually agree to their terms before signing up.

I've looked through Gab's network and that was enough to help understand how much Twitter/Facebook/Google need to be open-sourced if not shut down, and their boards arrested for treason. They are using Gab as a dumping ground and pointing at it as if it's Gab's fault.

I understand Gab wants to grow it's user base etc. and I support this in spirit. I disagree with much more that is out of Gab's control especially in relation to edge providers/platforms working day and night to completely control the internet.

If we are to break this then the areas they are controlling need to be broken. New social media platforms won't fix anything unless they are completely disruptive. Gab is not this.

Take a look at Matrix and Mastodon.

I have. I like these products in spirit and still have a hefty amount of skepticism. Mastadon for example is dependent on donations from Patreon, a company openly hostile to our citizens. There is a lot of this and I am looking for a Napster-esque level of disruption because of it.
