My mistake, I didn't see the "Melbourne" (although it could've been Melbourne FL in my defense). I lived in Australia briefly and always found the relationship between the whites and indigenous people very interesting.

IMHO, it has to do with the amount of older hominid that is part of one's genetic makeup. If you have Neandertal and Denisovan then you are more evolved.

Blacks are the first homo sapians, whites, asians, and native races are all more recent versions (more evolved).

There's two types of relationship.

Privileged white person > Pet aborigines

Working class white person > Dangerous animal.

The same people that put aboriginal politics stickers on their car, also volunteer at animal shelters. The people that actually interact frequently with aborigines in the community all see something different.
