what set you apart from the other walk ons and the other players who were on the team with a scholarship?

Not enough to be honest. First of all I was a "preferred walk-on" for Coach Polk who left in the middle of the night for his beloved Mississippi State. Within a week or so the new coach David Perno had me and two others in his office and basically told us he would not be able to honor Coach Polk's promises and that we would have to earn it like the rest of the walk-ons. Situation got worse with him when I red flagged one of my physicals with a heart palpitation on my ekg. I called him to tell him I was temporarily medically restricted and he lost his shit on me. Couldn't believe I "didn't have the respect to come tell him in person." I actually thought I was being respectful considering he had just taken the job and was surely busy. Few weeks later he cut me and that was that. I'm sure he would've liked me to come grovel and find out how I could get better etc and maybe in retrospect I should've but I was young and prideful. Quite frankly I didn't like the guy and come to find out later nobody did. I remained friends with most of the younger players on the team throughout college.

Politics aside I was a switch hitting SS. Came in between two major leaguers (Jeff Keppinger and Gordon Beckham). My first day out there for optionals "Kep"(who had just been drafted) was out on the field taking bp with wood. That is the moment I realized the enormous difference between good ball players and big leaguers. He was smaller than me and was just effortlessly stroking 440ft bombs. Foley Fields dimensions are big and really only one or two right handed mashers would hit bombs in bp. That was with metal obviously.

What pos are you? Had any pro interest?

wow man that's an incredible story. Who wouldn't leave for miss state though? Them ole miss and vandy are those teams everyone wants to be on ya know? coach sounds like a cuck though getting mad over a legit health concern what a pos. even if it was over the phone its not like you quit on the team or anything. That's god you stayed friends with those guys though baseball buds are always the best. Did you play club baseball there then or try to see if a different college would want you? sounds like you were good asf.

I'm OF and RHP usually relief or closer since I was the only guy who could really do it honestly. I haven't heard Jeff Keppinger's name probably since I played 2011 the show of PS2 lmao! Meeting people along the way in the baseball world is nuts you never know who will get big or who you meet. And Sadly I never took baseball serious until middle of junior year of high school. Between jan 2019 to jan 2020 I weighed 142 to 170 being 5'10 its still underweight. But I did talk NDSCS in North Dakota and living there is just too damn small and it just didn't feel like the right place. Also talked to my local juco but since there was no senior year I couldn't exactly showcase myself. By summer ball they had all their recruits as well and no walk on tryouts with this chinese virus shit. been emailing around as of rn, hoping my college rn will let me have a shot next fall. worse comes to worse I'll walk on independent league after my 2 year... easier said than done for sure lol.

Played a little club ball after that. Couple big league tryouts. Those were fun but nobody was really that interested. There was a brief second when I thought Tampa Bay mightve been interested but they ghosted me.

I was thinking with your measurables you should soak up as much Josh Donaldson as you can. He was undersized when he was younger and just decided to forgo the getting huge part in favor of learning to hit the ball to the moon.

Well keep giving it everything. I didn't and I regret it. Watched many people I played along side make it. Some I felt I was better than! Friend I grew up with (Blaine Boyer) was like the oldest player in the AL last year lol. So needless to say I'm considerably past my prime. I could still hit his flat ass fastball a mile though I just know it 😉. Do you have any reel of yourself? It isn't necessary but it helps...

Oh yeah Blaine Boyer I know who he is he’s pretty decent dude. Donaldson is awesome I’m also a twins fan so I’m very familiar with his game and his fine glove at third with a canon. I bet you could hit nukes still just like Sheffield does! You could be the next Jim Morris for all we know

And yeah I do have a lot film but since my junior year I just played JV1 and summer ball being the scrawny stick I was they wanted to wait how I’d perform on varsity senior year which was a real bummer. Biggest regret ever was taking it serious too late. Might just have to find a shitty Naia or D3 school in some rural area honestly
