Fellow home school parent. You’ve made the right choice. Oldest opted to go to high school is in the most prestigious program the Commonwealth of Virginia offers, I’m not impressed. Of course as a home school parent you catch a lot of flak from the professional managerial administration class of the school system, were they question the validity of the education you have provided. Of course these same professionals passed a kid in the Baltimore school system with .13 GPA. My only concern with our other children will be what type of discrimination will go on at the collegiate level if the go home school to the end of high school.
Lot of truth in what you wrote. Trying to encourage looking at the trades. Unfortunately there is a lot of indoctrination, must go to college to be successful. STEM, finance, law, or medical/dental worth pursuing other majors not worth it.
I know the tradesmen I have been dealing with are making ridiculous money. Too many softies who don’t want to get their hands dirty. I try to DIY when practicable.

College is not required for a good life

But it certainly can help a lot, depending on the path(s) one wishes to take.
My top-tier ivy degree has helped tremendously, both from the content learned and network gained.
Yes if you go to college for the right things, it is worth it.
