Yeah hidden SSIDs are essentially an honor system where the access point says "please don't list me" and most default WiFi implementations honor that.

Fucking shameful.

MoSt SeCuRe ElEcTiOn In HiStOrY!

Edit: No password on a WiFI network also means no encryption, making it very possible to sniff all the traffic going over it and possibly inject traffic as well with tools like ettercap (though in fairness whatever app these "sensitive machines" are talking to the internet with may be using application level security such as SSL encryption which would make this somewhat more difficult)

At a minimum such an unsecured network would allow attackers to identify all machines connected to it and launch port scans and other attacks on those connected machines.

Unsecured wifi is ripe for Man in the Middle.

MitM isn't needed. This allows undocumented "adjudication" stations to be setup out of sight of any election observers. The view tabulators only had to register a high number of errors that require adjudication. Then theses thieves can sit in private and "adjudicate" (change) votes to their hearts content. This election was STOLEN! Trump won by a LOT!

Severely underrated comment! Top that off with the observers not being allowed to even see what was in the same room as them.
