Communications degrees are often broken into advertising, public relations and journalism itself. I went to school with an actual journalism program (called news media at the school). It was an okay course load. The problem is a lot of the students and quite a few of the professors take the journalism 101 ethics course (which teaches you about bias in news reporting and how to behave objectively) and then they promptly ignore it and decide to act like political activists instead. Not all the students are stupid, but you are right that most of them are. The large majority of the remaining portion or just dishonest political hacks. There are a few good journalists out there but they sure as shit don't work for Fox News.
