Why? The Media, that is why. Years ago the colors would alternate, and then they stopped switching Red to democrats....probably because they knew they were becoming communists, and didn’t want to aid to the realization.
The Republicans used to be represented by blue. It's only the past few election cycles that the colors changed. I assumed it was either because "red" and "Republican" begin with R or because a focus group responded better to blue, so they gave it to the Democrats.

There may not have been a party switch, but there was a color switch. Republicans used to be blue for the longest time and the dems were red.
It is reversed up here in Canada the Liberals are Red and the Conservatives are Blue.

Nah. GOP was formed BEFORE socialism/communism was even thought of
But weren't the colors chosen in the Reagan era?
Republicans were blue on the election maps when Reagan was elected.
