They'll never bother not staff that's expensive. But we can shift the narrative from their pet projects.

You mean the Supreme Court fucked up the case of O'Connor vs Donaldson.

It made involuntary confinement of crazies unconstitutional.

"a state cannot constitutionally confine a non-dangerous individual who is capable of surviving safely in freedom by themselves or with the help of willing and responsible family members or friends."

Shouldn't a shrink know this?

I understand what Reagan did as Governor in California.

Do you understand that Reagan could have increased the number of hospital staff in California 10 fold in 1969, but by 1975 it would have been moot after the Supreme Court ruling?

If you want to blame someone, blame Ken Keesey, Jerry Rivers (aka Geraldo Rivera), and Michael Douglas.

When One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (book) came out in 1962, followed by the stage play in 1963, the 'intelligentsia' (especially Hollyweird) began agitating for freeing the 'harmless' mentally ill. In 1972 Jerry Rivers did a report on a Staten Island nuthouse that got national attention, included a concert by John Lennon at MSG in 1972. Michael Douglas got the bright idea to capitalize on the hysteria by making the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, released in 1975. The ensuing pressure on state and federal legislators from retarded soccer moms and ACLU commies was more than their pansy asses could bear, so they passed a shit ton of laws turning all these nutcases loose.

Even in our little town, the number of homeless people skyrocketed. They basically turned people out into the streets (some of whom had been in that hospital for decades), and said, "You're on your own. You have an appointment for your meds."

Their meds were an hour away. Many of these people had no family left, no idea of how the world had changed, and they sure didn't have a driver's license. Our town was too small for a bus service.

The town just kind of rallied to help these people as best they could, but a lot of unnecessary pain and deaths happened. Also, one of the biggest employers in the county shut down, which didn't help, either.
