As a longtime fan of FPS games, I know that it's not a good idea to stand near exploding barrels during a fire fight.

They only explode in video games if they are red.

The ones in the original DOOM were grey, with open lids and glowing green goo inside.

Oh, well there's your problem... You're trying to light your grill with nuclear waste, not propane.

Ya' see, with propane, you get all flavor of the meat, but none of that burnt nuclear waste heat!

For all of your propane and propane accessory needs, come on down to Strickland Propane.

Borderlands has a different colored exploding barrel for every damage element.

Or propane accessories.

Standard ball or frangible ammo is not likely to ignite LPG tanks. That said, cover there is a terrible idea. For one thing, against quality AR-15 ammo that tank cabinet is concealment, not cover, and for another, its a no-man's land. If the shooter closed on you, you're on an island away from any other cover. Better to run in the open when the shooter is far than be forced to run when he's focused on you and in close range.

In an outdoor space, the best option is almost always running and not taking cover. If you've got active rounds coming at you, sure get your head down. If shooting is happening in general nothing beats distance. Mass shooters are rarely marksman and even with an AR-15, 50 yards of distance makes you almost unhittable for the deranged homeless person the FBI doped up for that shooting.

Came here to say this. Real life isn't like the video games where anything flammable will explode when hit by a lead/copper projectile.

Or tell your viewers to call 911 instead, while you just film the bodies saying how crazy it is. Help your fellow man! This is why our society is falling apart. We no longer care for our close family and community. We all live in this social bubble, now made real with these lockdowns. Know your neighbors. Be kind. Put others ahead of yourself. If you’re willing to risk getting shot while filming that close, then you can be willing to help.

Yeah this guy was a total fucking idiot. He heard the shooters may have run out the back, so he runs around the back, presumably to get an interview, then he runs back around the front, starts interfering with police, yells he's a journalist they shouldn't worry about him, worry about the problem, I was kinda hoping he was gonna get shot. By the shooter or the cops. Dude was a total asshole.

There's lots of things propane can do to your skin without being ignited, and if someone is shooting greentips, the potential for a spark is there. Also tracers exist. Outside of a mythbusters episode, why tempt fate like that?

I got into this with the police after they illegally murdered a homeless guy. They were shooting at him and missing and a full gas station with a giant propane tank was behind him. The stupid police officers defended their actions "My weapon couldn't pierce that tank!" If the family even had bothered to show up they could have sued and won with that omission.

In their defense, I believe many handgun rounds, especially 9mm or .40 cal that the police are likely to have, would just make a dent in that large of a tank. Granted, I’m just writing based on anecdotal evidence from YouTubers like Demolition Ranch.

...which could ricochet off the metal at all the 87-92 octane fuel pumps and pedestrians behind them...yeah but I guess youtube videos ftw

Why not? They won't explode, and the metal the tanks are made of is pretty tough.
