My only disagreement with what you wrote here was that one should certainly protest an abuse, but not resist. As an example, one would say "I do not consent to this search" ... but not get into a fist fight to avoid being searched.
He had every right to say what he did regarding passengers not required to show ID. After which he should have cooperated and then filed a complaint and/or hired an attorney if necessary. If there were more cooperation and people willing to testify in the high crime cities, folks would not be seeing so many cops in their neighborhoods.
