Same because values are based on things that have been proven to work. I just don't believe the mythology.

Good person? By what standard?

Start using the term "agnostic". It basically means you're not affiliated with any religion but you don't have a stick up your ass about it.

p1smo 6 points ago +6 / -0

It's a little more than that. Agnostic is basically another way of saying you're ambivalent, and don't necessarily have an opinion on the existence of God one way or the other. He might exist , or he might not. Usually hear it from people who understand there's a lot going on in the universe we'll never comprehend, and without proof of it's hard to say definitively.

I hear you fren. I always try to treat people decently, be honest in my business & help out when I can. You don't need to be a Christian to do those things 👍

i grew away from religion, but instead of out of spite or malice like a lot of people, i kinda wish there was and just dont believe there is. trust me, if there was some force out there protecting the good people of the world, id love that. im just going to trust the physical data we have on the world.

My story is similar to yours. I think the problem with many atheists is that instead of God they become fanatical about Climate Change, the Dem party, and/or other causes like Covid masks/vaccines. They are zealots.

You should look into The Jefferson Bible...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible

You can still be a good Christian without believing in magic and miracles. One such good Christian was a founding father,

I'd say I've moved up to 'agnostic' at this point.

This is the correct position, as the question is, in fact, unknowable.

I say this as a person who thinks it highly unlikely that a personified diety rules the universe.

Unless we're in some dude's computer.

Which I can't rule out.

So, yeah. Agnostic.

My best friend is an atheist, and we have a lot of really good theological debates about faith and the existence of God. What matters is keeping an open mind for different points of view, regardless if they align with yours or not. As long as you have the ability to listen and respond with decency and respect for one another, there will always be a place to meet in the middle and find common ground.

I'm Christian. I think you should be Christian too.

how about you just mind your own business

-1
nonplayable -1 points ago +8 / -9

How about why don't you

-6
Fignugent -6 points ago +5 / -11

no one asked you to insert your judgmental bullshit

4
nonplayable 4 points ago +7 / -3
  1. Where the judgment? 2. If I needed someone's permission to say something I'd be almost as pathetic as you
-5
Fignugent -5 points ago +4 / -9
  1. your inability to think about what you're doing and understand that it's bad is what makes you a shitty person. how about you go find a black person and say, "i wish that you were white"

  2. more judgmental bullshit, fuck off

REPENT for the Kingdom of God is at hand

Are you serious? You are making yourself look bad.

Yes, if christians didn't evangelize everywhere, and more importantly didn't negatively impact the collective knowledge of humanity with biblical literalism, I'd have much less of a problem with them.

I'm an atheist, but don't have a problem with Christians, unless they're mouth breathing fundamentalist retards or try to force their religion on me. Most people aren't rational, so it's understandable why many still believe in Christianity. That said, I embrace traditional conservative values, which predate Christianity by centuries, and insomuch as Christianity shares these values, I am aligned with Christians.

Without Christ the morality collapses fast though.

I also used to be an atheist. Then i saw the light. It happened one day while I was working in the garden, reflecting on who draws the line, and somehow this thought carried me all the back to when the universe was perfect and unchanging. Then something broke the symmetry. The first line was drawn. There was now this side and that, night and day, up and down, left and right. You still have to choose where you put your own mark.

Julian of Norwich "saw heaven in a single point". Freedom, choice, infinity, there's a lot to talk about.

somehow this thought carried me all the back to when the universe was perfect and unchanging

when was that, exactly?

1
Someonewhosaw 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't really know. It may always have been like this. The point is that none of us have answers for these things.

Last I checked, I came about when mommy and daddy loved each other very much, and then biological processes happened.

So free will is a no-no, then?

-1
deleted -1 points ago +2 / -3
4
buckfoomers 4 points ago +6 / -2

But if he has a plan, and everything follows this plan, how's that work with free will? I mean, I get giving babies cancer is very important to your god for some reason (not that he's ever been opposed to a bit of genocide, or even wiping out almost all of humanity), and that obviously doesn't require free will, but what about things that do like starting a family?
