I can't figure out how so many veterans are homeless. Not criticizing at all, but trying to understand the cause. Did they just not serve long enough to get retirement? My dad served 23 years in the Navy and since he wasn't an officer or anything, his retirement wasn't great. He still had to work on top of it. It was however enough to barely keep him from being homeless and for sure not homeless for any extended period of time (you could save up $$ while you were living in a tent to help improve your situation). If it's a matter of living in some shithole with high cost of living, why not live in a tent for 6 months to save up enough to move to a more rural area or something?
