Just noting here, based on doc friends and family having suffered from it- the hospital will ask and ask and ask about alcohol abuse, but it happens to be that drugs in Motrin and NSAIDs in general can wear down the appendix. There isn't published research as to why, but there a few reports linking them.
One problem is that people who take a lot of NSAIDs have other issues which are masked by the anti inflammatory. But just wanted you to know that this has happened. If you or a loved one is taking painkillers or NSAIDs daily, and your doctor has no source resolution diagnosis or plan, FIND ANOTHER DOC and start looking around at all the stressors (nutritional, environmental, psychological) that could be causing the problem.
