Serious question. Can I, due to personal beliefs, not serve cakes to Black people. Can I say black people are not allowed to purchase my cakes.
Can I say biological born males are only allowed to buy my cakes?
Can I say only Asians over 70 years old are allowed to buy my cakes?
What about if I replace the word cake with insulin? I all for freedom of religion and business but there is a line to be crossed and where is that line?
Apples and oranges there. He doesn't refuse service to anyone if all they want to do is buy a cake out of the display case. But these nut cases are looking for a payday by forcing him to make them one of his signature, custom Masterpiece cakes. They're trying to force an artist to create art that is personally repugnant to him.
Would you paint a painting of a person engaging in bestiality sex, and let them force you to put your name on it as your signature creation? That's closer to the point.
I actually do appreciate the reply. I'm an artist and I turn down commissions simply because I don't want to make it. Is a person dressed like a nazi can into my shop and asked my to make anti-semitic cake I would say no thank you. But if they came in and didn't say a word and just grabbed a box of cookies and wanted to pay I also would not want to allow them to purchase. They have free speech but I don't like what they stand for and do not wish to do business with them.
I think it's ok to stereotype a person who proclaims they are a nazi and refuse business to nazis.
But I do think that it would be wrong to refuse service to a Japanese person looking during World war II, or if you service to black , brown, and Asian people. I don't believe that moral beliefs to outright refuse service to a person based to the color of meat suite they were born with.
So thats where Transgender gets tricky. I personally believe the vast majority of TS people are valid and most don't make a big deal about it like wanting a cake. I think emphasis on gender like a gender reveal party is just a dumb as a transition cake. I personally wouldn't want to make a gender reveal cake for straight people.
What I comes down to is I'm gonna side with whoever was not being the asshole. If and business respectfully declined the survive or tells people they are disgusting freaks, or if the customers were disappointed but understanding or if they were just entitled Karens.
